Chinese firm filed a lawsuit against Apple Inc.
The company is asking for 10 billion yuan ($1.43 billion) in compensation and demanding that Apple ceases to "manufacture, use, agree to use, use, and import" goods that violate the patent, it said in a social media message.
Xiao-i claimed that Apple's Siri voice-recognition technology violates a patent it applied for in 2004 and was granted in 2009.
Apple declined to respond to a request for comment. For a copy of the court filing, Reuters was not immediately available.
The case marks the start of a chain that has lasted for almost a decade.
Shanghai Zhizhen initially sued Apple in 2012 for copyright infringement of its voice recognition technology. In July the Supreme People's Court of China ruled the patent was valid.
