New Zealand marks its 100th day without any community transmission of Covid 19

New Zealand recorded its 100th consecutive day without any community transmission, rendering the 5 million-strong Pacific island nation one of the safest countries in the world.

New Zealanders have returned to normal life with global cases rising at more than 19.6 million, 726,000 suicides, with many nations reimposing restrictions. However, authorities are worried that citizens still declined testing, did not use government touch tracing software, and also violated simple hygiene regulations.

New Zealand has 23 active cases in controlled isolation facilities, and in total so far, 1,219 Covid-19 cases.

"Achieving 100 days without community transmission is a big accomplishment but, as we all know, we can not afford to be complacent," said Health Director General Dr Ashley Bloomfield.

"We have seen worldwide how rapidly the virus can arise and spread in areas where it was previously under control and we need to be prepared to root out any potential cases in New Zealand promptly," he said.
