A top White House official said on Monday after the navy deployed two aircraft carriers to the South China Sea to raise its presence in the region, the U.S. military "must continue to stand firm" in relation to a confrontation between India and China or anywhere else.

Staff chief Mark Meadows of the White House told Fox News, "The message is clear. We're not going to stand by and let China or anyone else take the reins as the most powerful, dominant force, whether it's in that region or over here," Meadows quoted saying to another question, "And the message is clear. Our military might stands strong and will continue to stand strong, whether it's in relationship to a conflict between India and China or anywhere else." In many areas of eastern Ladakh including Pangong Tso, Galwan Valley and Gogra Hot Spring, India and China's troops are locked in an eight-week standoff. The situation worsened last month following the clashes in the Galwan Valley that left 20 Indian Army personnel dead as both sides significantly improved their deployments in most areas along the LAC. Two of its aircraft carriers were sent by the United States to the South China Sea. "Our goal is to make sure the world knows that we still have the pre-eminent military force on the face of the globe," said Meadows. The influential Republican Senator Tom Cotton, appearing on Monday's same Fox News talk show with host Brian Kilmeade, said the U.S. aircraft carriers are heading to the South China Sea to counter any Chinese misadventure against Taiwan or other countries in the region.
