Saya 's photographs, a rare black panther who lives in Kabini forest in Karnataka , India, have gone viral.

Shaaz Jung, the man behind the camera — who spent 12 hours a day chasing the panther for five long years — was more shocked at how these pictures hit the Internet.

In the past five years, the 31-year-old wildlife filmmaker and photographer has only filmed Saya – the melanistic leopard who has made his way into the Kabini forest.

"When people see these images, they assume there are many leopards, but there is really only one black panther where we are – a melanistic leopard in the thick Nagerhole forest. So, it was like finding a needle in a haystack, "Jung said.

Jung has been going into the jungle at 6 a.m. for two-three years straight, spending the whole day out there till 6.30 p.m., all seven days in a week.

But Jung knew this was once in a life time opportunity, till now black panthers have only been studied in Malaysia 's forests using remote camera traps.

Black panthers are typically found in tropical forest, where the dense foliage of trees does not allow the sun to reach the vegetation, but Saya is present in the Kabini deciduous forest.

The virality started when it was picked up by a Twitter handle called 'Planet' and soon millions of people were sharing the images all over the world. Jung, whose father is the retired Indian cricketer Saad Bin Jung, got a call from his brother, the actor, and also from Saif Ali Khan about the viral images, asking him to share them too.
