Covid 19 Vaccine Update

Following clinical trials on a group of volunteers, the Russian Defence Ministry today said it had produced a "free" corona virus vaccine. The ministry said that 18 people took part in the research and were released without "significant adverse outcomes, health issues, complications or side effects."

The trial results "allow us to speak confidently about the vaccine's safety and good tolerability," it said in a statement.

The Department of Defence did not know if the vaccine was actually successful, but a doctor working on the trials said the volunteers were safe from corona virus now.

"Their immunity works well, antibodies are made, they are protected from corona virus," researcher Svetlana Volchikhina said in a video released by the ministry of defence.

The volunteers were separated at Moscow's Burdenko Military Hospital on June 18, when the trial vaccine was conducted and daily inspections were carried out.

The Ministry of Defence announced that "the vital signs of volunteers stayed within usual limits for 28 days after vaccination."

The defence ministry has said it anticipates full completion of clinical trials by the end of July.

In the meantime, promising news about initial trials of the proposed COVID-19 vaccine at the University of Oxford that was approved to AstraZeneca could be revealed as early as Thursday, ITV's political editor Robert Peston said, citing a source. Phase III trials of the candidate for the covid vaccine, that included thousands of human volunteers, began in Brazil last month.
